This may be only vaguely related to the fear of excitement, but in my case the unconscious strategies I've used to avoid vanity and pride, while of often a good fix to that problem, also have kept me away from self-love. Yet true humility can only be grown on self-love, without which validation from others is always sought. And what is more sad than needed anyone's validation for one's most cherished dreams?
